Camilla - Rescue workers used heavy fork-lifts, trained dogs and bare hands yesterday to sift through tons of debris in a search for survivors of the deadliest tornadoes to hit the US state of Georgia since the second World War.

At least 19 people were killed and more than 100 others injured early on Monday morning when powerful twisters ripped through four counties in south-western Georgia, levelling homes and tossing cars around like toys.
