LIMA - Military activity around the Japanese embassy residency has forced the International Committee of the Red Cross to suspend its work inside, a spokeswoman said yesterday.
The organisation has been carrying in two meals daily as well as bringing letters, games and books to the 73 hostages held since December 17th by Tupac Amaru Revolutionary Movement rebels.
"At this time the ICRC has pulled out of the residency and is no longer doing its humanitarian work until the situation is safe," said Red Cross spokeswoman Ms Cecile Baux.
