Around one third of the pupils at New Ross Vocational College, Co Wexford, walked out today in protest over the lack of heating in their classroom.

They claimed the freezing conditions in some classrooms are unbearable and are not conducive to a good education.

The school principal, Mr Murphy said: "A new heating system, installed during the summer, has had a few teething problems. Engineers are due to investigate the problem."

The 100 pupils went back into the classroom later in the day but only after the school made provision for extra heaters.
