A 25 year old man is recovering in hospital after a "punishment attack in west Belfast early yesterday. A number of masked men armed with cudgels forced their way into the house in Plevna Park and beat the victim with cudgels.

He suffered head, neck and arm injuries. The men smashed furniture in the house before leaving.

Meanwhile, the RUC is investigating two arson attacks in the North on Sunday night. Smoke damage was caused to a pub on the loyalist Hillhall Road in Lisburn, Co Antrim, in the first incident.

In the second attack, there was extensive damage to the ground floor of an unoccupied house on the Park Road in Dungannon, Co Tyrone. Four youths are helping the RUC with its inquiries about this incident.
