An inmate of the Maze Prison, Danny McNamee, who was convicted of the London Hyde Park bombing in 1987, has been reclassified from top-risk to high-risk category.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr Andrews, yesterday welcomed the development. "It means that Mr McNamee will now have enhanced prospects for applying for various forms of compassionate and home leave", he said.
A Channel 4 documentary shown last July claimed that British police withheld crucial evidence which cast doubt on McNamee's conviction.
