A poultry plant in Co Roscommon has been making illegal deductions from the wages of three Brazilian workers, according to the Labour Relations Commission (LRC).
Hannon’s Poultry in Roscommon town, which employs about 40 people, was today found to have deducted money from the wage packets of the three Brazilians at a hearing of the LRC.
Earlier this year the company was ordered to pay around £11,500 for breaches of water pollution legislation and is still under threat of having its licence revoked by Roscommon County Council after a report published in July named Hannons among four companies discharging excessive levels of effluent into the Upper Shannon water system.
A spokesperson for the company was unavailable for comment at the time of writing.
