The Government won its confidence motion by 84 votes to 80. The Government was supported by Independents Mr Jackie Healy-Rae (Kerry South), Mr Thomas Gildea (Donegal South West), Mr Harry Blaney (Donegal North East) and Ms Mildred Fox (Wicklow).

Labour was supported by Fine Gael, the Green Party, Mr Joe Higgins (Socialist Party, Dublin West), Mr Caoimhghin O Caolain (SF, Cavan-Monaghan), Mr Tony Gregory (Independent, Dublin Central) and Mr Seamus Healy (Independent, Tipperary South).
