Manila - The Philippines' national police chief was charged with graft yesterday for allegedly trying to persuade investigators to drop criminal charges against a suspected drug pusher.

The government ombudsman accused Gen Roberto Lastimoso of violating anti-graft laws and corrupt practices in the charge filed before Manila's anti-graft court, a statement from the ombudsman's office said. The offence is punishable by 15 years in jail.
