A postmortem examination is to be held today on the body of a man who died after being arrested and detained at a south Dublin Garda station early yesterday.

Gardaí at Terenure station arrested the 32-year-old man just before 3am on foot of a number of outstanding warrants.

When gardaí went to the man's cell at 8am they could not wake him, and he was then taken to St James's Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The Garda Ombudsman Commission is investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death.
