The RUC is not treating as sectarian a pipe-bomb attack in north Belfast overnight.

It occurred at 11.45when a pipe-bomb was thrown to the waiting area of a Sunnydale Taxi service in Joansmount Gardens. The device exploded but no one was hurt.

The RUC is investigating the incident but said it does not suspect a sectarian motive.

The RUC has also confirmed two security alerts in Belfast last night were deliberate hoaxes after examinations by experts.

An alert followed the discovery of a gas cyliner with wires attached on Belfast's Shore Road.

The second alert occurred when a hijacked van was found abandoned in Shankill Parade. It held a similar gas cylinder object.
