THE British pop singer Kim Wilde (35) married actor Hal Fowler (28) yesterday in a Hertfordshire village. Wilde, whose hits include Kids in America, wore white, while her groom was in top hat and tails.

Austria's first lesbian wedding took place on Saturday after days of controversy among Protestant clergy over whether to let it proceed. The two women, named only as Jutta and Irene - one Viennese the other German wore skirts and black jackets and both held bouquets of white and yellow flowers.

Hollywood actor Morgan Freeman has worked for a fraction of his normal fee to narrate one of the most expensive documentaries ever made by the BBC. Freeman, star of Seven and Unforgiven, was moved to tears as he worked on The Promised Land, a five part epic covering the migration of blacks from the US Deep South to the North.
