The second day of the intensive search of the Mijas area in Spain for missing teenager Amy Fitzpatrick concluded about 4pm local time yesterday with no relevant findings, according to the local emergency services on the Costa del Sol.

The search was conducted by civil guard officers, firefighters from seven local towns and civil protection personnel, backed by two teams of sniffer dogs and a helicopter. It focused on an 8km area west of the spot where Amy was last seen on January 1st.

Unconfirmed local reports say that the resources deployed over the past 48 hours are to be scaled down today and the search will be continued by the civil guard only.

A spokesman for the police refused to confirm speculation that a "solid lead" indicating Amy's whereabouts had been received in the past 24 hours.
