A 22-year-old man suffered two broken arms, a broken leg and puncture wounds after a frenzied attack by a mob in Co Armagh last night.

The man was setting up his mobile chip van outside a pub in the nationalist village of Camlough when a group of men attacked him.

His van was rammed by another vehicle and he was dragged to the side of the pub where he was savagely beaten. His van was driven away by one of his assailants and set alight outside his house.

Meanwhile, a bus driver suffered facial and eye injuries after his vehicle was attacked by a group of youths in the loyalist Shankill area of west Belfast.

The gang threw missiles through the window of his bus outside a leisure centre.

A spokesman for public transport company Translink said the man could have been seriously injured.

"Unfortunately attacks like this are reasonably frequent, particularly at evening time in parts of the city," he said.

"It is the sort of incident which could very quickly get out of hand where a driver could lose control of a bus," he added.
