A teenager who died of leukaemia earlier this year is to have a memorial unveiled in her name arising out of her energetic fundraising for children with autism.

Niamh Cadogan (17) was the leader of a Young Social Innovators project called “Amazing Grace: Improving the Lives of Children with Autism” in Skibbereen, Co Cork. The project involved raising funds by recycling mobile phones to purchase iPods and iPads with special apps for children and teenagers with autism.

Ms Cadogan became interested in fundraising for autism because her 10-year-old brother Stephen has the condition. The teenager read an article about Wicklow entrepreneur Lisa Domican, who had invented an app which makes communicating easier for autistic children.

The Drimoleague teenager then decided to dedicate herself to fundraising to buy the devices for local children.
