An incident in the Glenamoy region of north Mayo in which a gun was discharged close to a fishery patrol is being investigated by gardai.
Details of the incident were given to the monthly meeting of the North Western Regional Fisheries Board in Ballina last night by the board's chief officer, Mr Vincent Roche. He said the gun was discharged after the board's protection staff had chased a number of individuals involved in a poaching operation on the Glenamoy river.
