A Dublin man has begun a life sentence after a jury unanimously convicted him of the murder of another man during a drunken row in a field in Palmerstown.

Michael McDonnell (42), of Clondalkin, had denied the murder of Mr Martin Sweeney (36), of Ballyfermot, at the fields adjacent to Mill Lane, Palmerstown, between May 27th and 28th, 1999.

The jury unanimously found McDonnell guilty of murder after the trial in the Central Criminal Court. Mr Justice Butler imposed the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment.
