A British Aerospace engineer from Durham went on trial in Belfast yesterday accused of plotting with his brother to make sub machineguns.

Mr Desmond Lindop (43), a father of four from Chesterle Street, Durham, is also accused of having 12 Sten gun magazines, 400 bullets and 1,000 primers. He denies all the charges.

Mr Denis Lindop (47), of Holywood, Co Down, is awaiting sentence having pleaded guilty to possessing guns, ammunition and explosives and the unauthorised manufacture of homemade submachineguns.
