Camp Zeist - The Lockerbie trial will open as planned on May 3rd, the presiding judge ruled yesterday. Lord Ranald Sutherland threw out a prosecution request for an eight-week postponement of the trial of two Libyans charged with bringing down a US airliner over Lockerbie, Scotland, in 1988.

The judge acknowledged the difficulty the crown faces after having received the list of defence witnesses only last week, but added: "I am not satisfied that a postponement is necessary".
