The 80th anniversary of the May Day Limerick General Strike, known as the Limerick Soviet, was commemorated in the city at the weekend. In a seminar held at the Hunt Museum on Saturday the story was told of how the workers ran the city for the day as a protest against British military rule.
A history of the period was given by Mr Liam Cahill, a former RTE journalist, and D.R. O'Connor-Lysaght, author of an updated story of the time, with Mr Tom Crean, labour historian.
