One of Ireland's wealthiest and most influential businessmen is at the centre of a Garda investigation into alleged phone tapping.
The man under suspicion is a wealthy property developer who has a high profile and strong links to Fianna Fáil.
He was interviewed by detectives after a former female business associate reported to gardaí that her mobile phone was being tapped.
Her suspicions were reportedly aroused after the man allegedly revealed information which the woman believes could only have been known by having access to her voice messages.
An investigation was instigated last year and a file was later sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The Evening Heraldtoday reports that the woman alleged that text and voice messages had been accessed and in some cases deleted from her phone.
It quotes an unnamed source saying the Garda investigation had established that the phone used to effect the tap was registered to the address of one of the businessman's companies.
RTÉ reports that charges were not proffered because the phone was not personally owned by the man.
The investigation is understood to be ongoing.
