Mombasa - Tourists have been forced to give the Kenyan coastal resort of Mombasa a wide berth after workers dumped mountains of rubbish in the city, saying the council owes them three months wages.

Tour operators said they were staying away from central Mombasa to avoid confrontations between thousands of council workers and police and the stench of rubbish.
