A jury at the Central Criminal Court has failed to reach agreement on 14 charges against a 53-year-old Englishman accused of sexually assaulting a Co Louth girl between 1989 and 1997.

The jury spent almost six hours deliberating after a four-day trial in which the defendant denied he sexually abused the now 17-year-old schoolgirl.

Mr Justice Cyril Kelly remanded him on continuing bail to March 26th next for the fixing of a new date for the trial.
