PARIS - Islamist rebels killed 13 villagers by cutting their throats in western Algeria, bringing the number of people killed in a four-day wave of massacres to at least 120, an Algerian newspaper said yesterday.
The guerrillas, believed to be members of Algeria's Armed Islamic Group (GIA), attacked Merchiche hamlet in the western Tlemcen province, 225 miles west of Algiers, at dusk on Sunday.
