The Irish Republican Socialist Party, the INLA's political wing, has claimed that the RUC Special Branch is pressuring a single mother from the Lower Falls area of west Belfast to become an informer, writes Suzanne Breen.

The party alleged that large sums of money had been offered to Ms Mary Harkin, a mother of three, and that she had been sent toys through the post for her children. It also claimed that a Special Branch officer had telephoned her home.

An RUC spokesman said that he had no knowledge of a complaint about the alleged incidents. Any complaint would be fully investigated, he added.
