THE IRA has admitted responsibility for the bomb attacks in England which caused widespread chaos and paralysed the rail network on Friday morning. A male caller phoned the RTE newsroom in Dublin on Saturday and, using a recognised code-word, said the IRA had planted the devices.

The bombs exploded at Leeds and Doncaster during the morning rush-hour and army disposal officers carried out two controlled explosions at Stoke-on-Trent railway station. Police were evaluating the city-centres after receiving warnings at 7 a.m. when the devices went off.
