AN investigation was continuing yesterday into the cause of a fire involving chemicals after 21 members of the emergency, services had to be treated in hospital in Belfast.

The fire broke out in a vacant cottage which was being used as a store near Donaghadee, Co Down, on Thursday. Thirteen firemen, four RUC officers and four ambulance personnel were taken to the Ulster Hospital at Dundonald for treatment for irritant symptoms when it was realised there were chemicals in the building. Two police officers were detained overnight for observation. They were released yesterday.
