A seriously injured crewman has been taken from a Spanish fishing vessel and brought to Cork University hospital.

The man sustained his injuries after he was stuck by a steel cable while he was working on the vessel in high winds some 60 miles from Fastnet Rock.

The Shannon coastguard helicopter was unable to airlift the man from the vessel due to the weather. The ship docked at Castletownbere harbour at 10 a.m.
