Bail for mother over drug charge
The mother of a man who died in November 2007 after he fell into a coma at an alleged “cocaine party” has been remanded on continuing bail regarding a drug charge.
Betty Grey, of Ballybeg Square, Waterford, whose son John (23) died 16 days after going into a coma, is facing a charge of allowing her house to be used for the illegal consumption of drugs.
Judge Thomas Teehan remanded her on continuing bail at Carlow Circuit Court until a sitting in the new year.
Duck farm guilty of pollution
A duck farm based in Emyvale, Co Monaghan, has pleaded guilty to two charges of causing pollution with duck slurry and faeces.
The Silver Hill Duck Farm, which has won a number of national and international awards and is ranked as one of Europe’s largest duck producers, was fined almost €10,000 after pleading guilty to two out of eight charges brought against it by the Environmental Protection Agency.
The other six charges were dropped by the State.
EPA officials told the court how the company had allowed poultry faeces and other slurry to be spilled into neighbouring locations.
The company said it has spent about €7 million in the last number of years on improving environmental matters.
