The island’s population of 262 was boosted by nine births on the island in the past 12 months, five girls and four boys.

The primary school has 22 pupils. It hopes to share the facilities with the 23 pupils of secondary school, Coláiste Gobnait, and to make them available out of school hours to clubs and groups.

Planning permission has been secured, but the bunscoil’s board of management believes that constraints on public finances will prevent its realisation.

Limerick threat sentence adjourned

A Limerick man who claimed he was threatened while driving his wife and young children is under 24-hour Garda protection, a court has heard.

The evidence was given at Limerick Circuit Court yesterday at the sentencing hearing of Brian Collopy (38), St Senan Street, St Mary’s Park, and Ballysimon, Co Limerick. A jury convicted Mr Collopy last month of intimidating Willie Moran at Island Road, Limerick, on June 9th last.

Michael Collins, defending, told the court yesterday that Mr Collopy was “more a victim of prejudice than truth”.

Judge Moran adjourned sentencing until Friday.
