A MAN in his 40s was in custody in Limerick last night following a drugs and firearms seizure in the city over the weekend.
Heroin with an estimated street value of €700,000 was discovered along with two semi-automatic pistols and ammunition at an apartment on the Ennis Road at 4pm on Saturday.
A small amount of cocaine, cannabis and ecstasy were also found. The firearms and ammunition have been sent for forensic and ballistic testing.
The suspect was being held for questioning last night at Henry Street Garda station under section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
A Garda spokesman said the search was part of ongoing operations tackling the sale and supply of drugs in Limerick which involved detectives from the divisional drugs squad as well as gardaí from Henry Street.
Meanwhile, a cannabis growing factory was uncovered by gardaí in Wicklow containing 170 cannabis plants, with a street value of about €65,000 in a house in the village of Manor Kilbride.
Two men, aged 35 and 37, were arrested at the scene and detained at Tallaght Garda station.
