Athens - Greece doubled its reward yesterday for information on the guerrilla group which killed the British diplomat, Brig Stephen Saunders, last week. The amount was increased to one billion drachmas (£2.25 million).

None of the November 17 group's members has been arrested since it emerged in 1975, and the United States has long complained that Greece is not doing enough to fight terrorism.

Athens stepped up its efforts after the latest attack, sending scores of undercover police on to the streets of the capital and receiving help from officers of Britain's Scotland Yard police headquarters, who arrived in Athens last Friday.

The body of the murdered British diplomat was flown home yesterday after a short ceremony at Athens airport.
