Gate set to honour Friel

The Gate Theatre has announced it will honour playwright Brian Friel with a ten day celebration of his work this September.

The Gate Theatre has announced it will honour playwright Brian Friel with a ten day celebration of his work this September.

Between September 9th and 19th, The Gate will present three of Friel's plays -  Faith Healer, Afterplayand T he Yalta Game.

Faith Healer, directed by Robin Lefevre, will be performed on eight of the ten days. Owen Roe will play the lead role of Frank Hardy, an American faith healer who tours Scotland and Wales with his wife and mistress.

Afterplay, which premiered at The Gate in 2002, tells the story of immigrants who gather in a Moscow café. It will be directed by Garry Hynes and performed on six of the ten days.

The Yalta Game,which also premiered in The Gate, tells the story of an accountant, played by Risteárd Cooper, who holidays alone leaving his family behind in Moscow. Patrick Mason will direct. It will be performed on six of the ten days.

Tickets are between €25 and €30.
