They were 69-year-old Christina Twomey and 42-year-old Kathleen Barrett, both of whom were from Ballincollig West.

The bodies were recovered from the River Glanmire soon after the accident.

The alarm was raised when the vehicle was seen to go into the water close to aroundabout after swerving to avoid another car.
