Garda arrested on suspicion of drink driving

Gardaí have confirmed that a member of the force has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving while on duty.

The female garda, who is stationed in Dublin, was arrested  in Navan at around noon on Monday under section 49 of the Road Traffic Act.

The garda was on duty at the time of the arrest and was driving an unmarked garda vehicle. It is believed she collided with another vehicle.

A spokesman said she had not been suspended and the case was being investigated. If convicted she faces fines of up to €2,500 and a six-month prison sentence. She could be disqualified for up to two years.
