The funeral takes place today of a young Limerick sportsman who died after taking ill while playing for the University of Limerick in a Freshers basketball tournament at the Tallaght arena in Dublin on Saturday.
Mr Ross Cooney (18), Upper Mallow Street, is the son of Garda Joe Cooney, who is the community garda in St Joseph's parish, and his wife, Helen.
The university basketball team coach, Mr Paul Marrinan, said Ross was playing the best basketball he had ever seen him play on Saturday, and they were all devastated. He had scored just before he became ill.
