SINN Fein has a week to decide if it can agree to a draft report of the Forum for Peace and Reconciliation which would allow unionists the right of consent to any future settlement in Northern Ireland.

The report will be the most important to come from the Forum, which was set up after the IRA ceasefire.requirements.

A special committee representing all 12 delegations to the Forum including the Alliance Party, SDLP, Sinn Fein and the parties in the Republic, has been working on the report over the past six months.

The report was described last night as "almost complete" following a 10 hour meeting at Dublin Castle. The delegates will consult their party colleagues on the draft report before what is expected to be the final meeting of the committee on Friday.

Sinn Fein delegates at yesterday's meeting were the chairman, Mr Pat Doherty, and Ms Rita O'Hare. The chairwoman of the Forum, Judge Catherine McGuinness, also chaired the drafting committee. Alliance was represented by the leader, Dr John Alderdice. SDLP deputy leader, Mr Seamus Mallon, and the Taoiseach's representative, Mr Sean Donlon, were also present.

Work also went ahead yesterday on three other reports being drawn up by subcommittees of the Forum. These deal with Obstacles in the South to Reconciliation, Economics and Fundamental go and Freedoms.
