Ottawa - The Supreme Court of Canada has upheld a federal ban on the possession of child pornography but allowed two crucial exemptions.

It ruled that a person could not be prosecuted for creating either photographic or written child pornography designed purely for that individual's use. The ban on the production and distribution of child pornography was maintained.
