European Union regulators have extended the deadline for their review of Kraft Foods' proposed buy of Cadbury after the US food company offered concessions aimed at ensuring the deal is not anticompetitive.

Kraft made a formal $16.1 billion bid for the British chocolate maker last week. The combined group would be the world's biggest confectionery firm ahead of privately owned Mars-Wrigley.

The deadline for an EU regulatory decision was pushed back to January 6th from December 14th, the European Commission's daily list of mergers and takeovers under review showed today.
