MUSICIANS and teachers of music are coming together to share the secrets of teaching traditional Irish music to young people

MUSICIANS and teachers of music are coming together to share the secrets of teaching traditional Irish music to young people. The course, in the Navan Heritage Centre in Armagh over eight Saturday afternoons, includes topics such as class preparation, teaching methods and the relevance of traditional music in the school curriculum. The Armagh Pipers' Club, with funding from the Northern Ireland Voluntary Trust, has set it up, in the hope that it will lead to the establishment of recognised, accredited training for teachers of traditional music.

The course co-ordinator is Eithne Vallely (tel: (08) (01861)51248) Although it kicked off last Saturday, there are places available. The registration fee is £10, and participants should be competent on at least one traditional instrument.
