The controversy over allegations of croneyism in the European Commission gets an airing at NUI Galway's Literary and Debating Society on Thursday. The motion - "that the European Union is a centralised bureaucracy, out of touch with the wants, needs and aspirations of the common person" - will be debated by Fine Gael's Alan Dukes and Joe McCartin, the Green Party's John Gormley and Joe Higgins of the Socialist Party. It starts at 8 p.m. in the Richard Kirwan Theatre at the college.
