LONDON - Prison chiefs were under fire last night after a dying man was left handcuffed to his bed in a cancer hospice. Remand prisoner Geoffrey Thomas (25) was unchained only three hours before he died of stomach cancer.
Last night, as jail chiefs began an inquiry, relatives and his doctors hit out at heavy handed prison rules, claiming the terminally ill patient facing burglary charges was so weak he could not stand, let alone escape.
His mother, Ms Manna Davies, said: "Geoffrey should have been allowed to die with dignity. I begged the guards to take his chains off but they wouldn't listen."
