Dog owners have been urged to be in control of their animals at all times as the lambing season gets into full swing. Up to 2.5 million lambs will be born on 30,000 sheep farms across the State in the next three months.
IFA sheep chairman James Murphy said dog owners must regularly ask themselves if they know where their dogs are, particularly at night. Under the Control of Dogs Act, a dog owner is guilty of an offence if his or her dog is found worrying livestock, and can be held liable for economic losses caused.
