Beijing - China has sentenced to death a Communist Party official blamed for the collapse of a bridge in the south-western city of Chongqing, in which at least 40 people died.
The Chongqing No 1 intermediate court said Lin Shiyuan, who was deputy secretary of the Qijiang county party committee at the time of the disaster, had been sentenced to death for "taking bribes and for dereliction of duty."
