A MAN has been further remanded on bail on money laundering charges when he made his second appearance in court following an investigation by gardaí into the Northern Bank robbery in 2004.

Timothy Cunningham (59), a financial adviser, Woodbine Lodge, Farran, Co Cork, was back before Cork District Court yesterday on 10 charges of money laundering between December 20th, 2004, and February 24th, 2005.

Insp Mick Comyns applied for a continuing remand on bail to April 23rd for preparation and service of the book of evidence against Mr Cunningham, who is accused of possessing over £3 million knowing or believing it to the proceeds of the Northern Bank robbery.

Mr Cunningham is also charged with transferring various sums of money and vehicles to a total value of £605,000 to a number of people, knowing or believing the amounts and items to be the proceeds of the raid on the cash centre in Donegall Square West in Belfast.

Mr Cunningham's solicitor John O'Donoghue yesterday said his client was consenting to the remand but he was seeking an extension of his bail signing-on times, from the current 6pm-9pm to a more manageable 9am-9pm at the Bridewell Garda station.

Insp Comyns said gardaí had no difficulty with the signing on times being extended.

Judge Uinsinn Mac Gruairc remanded Mr Cunningham on continuing bail on his own bail of €200,000 and an independent surety of €200,000 to appear again on April 23rd.

Meanwhile, Insp Comyns said that the Director of Public Prosecutions had directed that a firearms charge against another man arrested as part of the same Garda investigation be dealt with at Circuit Court level.

Don Blayney (48), Old Church Road, Passage West, Cork, is charged with possessing 220 live rounds of ammunition in Passage on February 18th, 2005, in circumstances that would give rise to the belief it was not for a lawful purpose.

Insp Comyns said the DPP had directed that the matter be dealt with indictment at Circuit Court level and he asked for an adjournment to April 23rd for preparation and service of documents on Mr Blayney.

Mr Blayney's solicitor, Catherine Kirwan, said her client was consenting to the remand.

Judge Mac Gruairc remanded Mr Blayney on his own continuing bail of €10,000 and an independent surety of €5,000 to appear again at Cork District Court on April 23rd.
