A young Cork man was yesterday found guilty of the manslaughter of an elderly woman who died from shock after being tied up during a burglary at her home over two years ago.

John Arundel (26), of Baker's Road, Gurranebraher, Cork had denied unlawfully killing newspaper vendor Ms Margaret Murphy (73) at Barrett's Buildings, Cork on August 1st, 1997, during his four-day trial at Cork Circuit Criminal Court.

The jury found him guilty of Ms Murphy's manslaughter and of the burglary of £320 in cash and a number of small items from her house. He was remanded in custody for sentence on December 3rd.
