British army technical experts have carried out a controlled explosion on a hijacked vehicle outside a police station in County Derry.

The main street of Claudy has been sealed and buildings in the area have been evacuated.

The RUC said a van was hijacked by two armed men in Northland Way, Derry.

The driver was held for a time then told to drive to Claudy RUC Station.
