'Conscience is clear', FG councillor says

Fine Gael councillor Anne Devitt said her “conscience is clear” after the tribunal found her actions over the so-called Cargobridge lands to be “entirely inappropriate”.

In its investigation into rezoning of lands adjoining Dublin Airport, the tribunal found Ms Devitt became engaged in a project in which there was a potential conflict of interest between her roles as councillor and lawyer acting for a party to the Cargobridge consortium.

“The tribunal was of the view that Cllr Devitt’s actions, in agreeing to act for financial reward, for the advancement of matters the outcome of which rested in the decision-making powers of the council of which she was a member, were entirely inappropriate,” the report said.

Ms Devitt told the tribunal the work she received payment for was in her capacity as a lawyer. Yesterday she told The Irish Times she disagreed with the tribunal’s findings.

Enda Kenny said Fine Gael’s internal disciplinary committee would deal with report findings relating to party personnel.
