Half a million adults find it difficult to read instructions on an aspirin packet, doing homework with their children or filling in forms, according to the National Adult Literacy Agency. The agency, with 4,200 literacy tutors of whom over 80 per cent are volunteers, held a conference in Dublin at the weekend.
