An overnight fire at a hotel in Co Wexford has caused millions of euro of damage.

An overnight fire at a hotel in Co Wexford has caused millions of euro of damage.

The fire broke out in the roof of Murphy Floods Hotel, in Market Square, Enniscorthy, became engulfed in flames at around 8.30p.m. last night.

At least 50 people in the hotel, as well as customers in nearby pubs and residents of homes in the square, were evacuated as firefighters tackled the blaze.

The hotel was recently sold for €3.1 million. The two upper floors were gutted, along with the roof. The ground floor sustained only water damage.

There were no injuries reported and Gardai are to investigate the scene.
