Co. Down outfit wins GAA Club of the Year

St Malachy's Castlewellan was today named AIB GAA Club of the year for 2002.

St Malachy's Castlewellan was today named AIB GAA Club of the year for 2002.

The Co. Down club, which has over 600 members, received the accolade and a €10,000 award at Croke Park this afternoon.

The club also won the Down County Award and the Provincial Award for Ulster.

In Leinster, Meath club Simonstown Gaels picked up a €5,000 development grant while Burgees (Tipperary) and St Brigids (Roscommon) won similar grants in Munster and Connacht respectively.

A total of 32 clubs received County Awards and development grants worth €2,000 each.
